Middlesbrough have entered the hunt to sign out-of-favour West Ham striker Jordan Hugill, according to TEAMtalk

The football news outlet report that Boro are hopeful of sealing a deal for Ipswich striker Martyn Waghorn this week before pursuing a deal for 26-year-old Hugill.

TEAMtalk claim that Middlesbrough have identified the Hammers man as a top target in their hunt for an out-and-out striker after Burnley rebuffed their attempts to sign Sam Vokes.

It is said that Hugill is keen on a move back to his hometown club, with the 26-year-old a Boro fan as a boy.

Hugill cost the Hammers £10million from Preston North End in January.

OPINION

Hugill has had a horrific time at West Ham since his £10million move from Preston North End in January, and an exit was always on the cards for the powerful striker this summer. The exact reasons behind the Hammers’ swoop for Hugill in January has never really been made clear, but recent reports have suggested that the club signed the 26-year-old in case of relegation. If that is true then that is deeply flawed logic from Hammers bosses, who should surely have spent that money on a player to avoid relegation rather than one in case of it occurring. It is also unfair on Hugill himself, who would have been over the moon with his chance to impress in the Premier League, which in reality was never really going to come. Anyhow, it looks like Hugill will get a move back down to the Championship in the coming days, and Middlesbrough look like a great option for the Teesside local boy.
