Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has delivered a damning verdict on West Ham United’s performance in their 4-0 loss against Liverpool this afternoon.

Liverpool went 2-0 ahead in the first half thanks to goals from Mo Salah and Sadio Mane.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher criticised the Hammers for the way they defended during the match, which eventually led to Mane netting his second eight minutes into the second half and Daniel Sturridge netting the fourth in the 88th minute.

“The LFC third goal was offside but holding that line on the edge of the box is going to cause problems all season, I fear for West Ham,” he said on his personal Twitter account.

OPINION

West Ham’s performance during their match against Liverpool has certainly warranted this damning verdict from Jamie Carragher. The way they were defending was woeful, and boss Manuel Pellegrini will need to re-think his line up for their second match. He should have started Issa Diop instead of Fabian Balbuena in order to deal with Liverpool’s intense attacking style, as it is something that he could not keep up with based on his display. The Hammers were expected to go and make some sort of impact with their new signings, but it seems like they have been silenced as it appears that the Reds have just been too strong for them. Hopefully the Irons can bounce back from this defeat and show the fans what they are about, but that has certainly not been the case this afternoon. They will face a tough season if they carry on defending like they have in this game.
