West Ham would be making a smart decision if they opted to sign RB Leipzig attacker Yussuf Poulsen after he impressed at the World Cup with Denmark this summer.

The 24-year-old who stands at 6ft 4in tall (according to Transfermarkt) has caught the Hammers’ eye after his World Cup displays in Russia as Calciomercato reported that the giant was in the London club’s cross hairs.

Manuel Pellegrini should look for the club to make their reported interest concrete in Poulsen as he would be the ideal recruit given his versatility.

Poulsen, who scored one goal in three appearances for Denmark at the World Cup, may not be a lethal finisher who will boost the club’s goalscoring records but his ability to play in multiple positions and work ethic would make him have a positive impact on the Hammers’ squad.

The colossus centre-forward is more than capable of playing upfront by himself or as a winger on either flank and would instantly give Pellegrini options as well as be fantastic cover if the Hammers were unlucky with injuries once again.

During the 2017/18 campaign it seemed like David Moyes was constantly dealt headaches due to his players being ruled out with injuries and he found himself struggling to get results due to having a depleted squad.

If Poulsen was to arrive this summer then Pellegrini would have a player capable of helping him deal with an injury crisis if the club were set to be dealt an unfortunate set of cards once again.

Also the 24-year-old is capable of being a regular first-team option if the club needed him to be as he is adept at flicking the ball onto his teammates as he regularly wins the aerials duels for his side.

Therefore if Pellegrini needed to go route one with his tactics in order to unlock an opponent’s defence then Poulsen would be the man capable of seeing out that plan successfully.

While route one football isn’t glamorous sometimes a team needs to play that way just to ensure that the three points are theirs.

Therefore given his versatility, power in the area and recent superb displays the Hammers should look to make their interest concrete is Poulsen as he would be the ideal recruit this summer.
