West Ham have had a fantastic transfer window thus far but there is still one deal that should aim to get done before the new season gets underway.

Sky Sports reported on Saturday that German wonderkid Max Meyer was still on the hunt for a new club this summer after he opted to leave Schalke upon his contract expiring.

The well-known broadcaster stated that the 22-year-old midfielder was looking for a weekly wage of around £135,000-a-week and while this is a mouthwatering demand for him to make, the Hammers should still pursue his services.

The 22-year-old could lower his demands slightly in order to join if Manuel Pellegrini is able to sell his vision to the club to the talented player, though it’s worth noting that Meyer is probably worth at least paying £100,000-a-week for.

Meyer is a dazzling talent who can feature as an attacking midfielder or a defensive midfielder with his passing ability able to dictate the tempo of a game, no matter who he comes up against.

The midfield maestro has also been known to be able to carve his opponent’s defence open with one sublime pass due to his superb ability to read the game.

After David Moyes struggled for midfield options last season then the Hammers could still do with recruiting a new midfielder who is flexible when it comes to his role in order to make sure that Pellegrini doesn’t suffer the same headaches as his predecessor.

Meyer fits that bill as well as being an option capable of establishing himself as a first-team regular for many seasons to come due to his age and ability.

While the wonderkid may not have featured before in the Premier League, Meyer has plenty of experience and a proven track record in top-flight football having been involved with 34 goals during the 146 appearances he has made in the Bundesliga.

It’s not often that talents like Meyer are able to be snapped up on free transfers and it’s not an opportunity the Hammers should look to pass on for that reason.

Therefore in order to round off what has been a stellar transfer window for the Hammers, Pellegrini should look to sanction the signing of Meyer despite his wages demands being staggeringly high.
