West Ham must abandon their reported pursuit of FSV Mainz attacker Yoshinori Muto and look to sign Danny Welbeck as his future at Arsenal is now thought to be in doubt.

According to German newspaper BILD the Hammers are keen on signing Muto with the Bundesliga side looking to sell their 25-year-old forward this summer.

While the Japanese forward who scored 10 goals last season is a respectable option to pursue in order to cover for the loss of Andy Carroll, who is injured yet again according to the club’s website, there’s a better option for the Hammers to take in the form of Welbeck.

The current Gunners attacker’s future at the Emirates is in doubt according to The Telegraph as the club are expected to have to trim their squad after completing the main portion of their incoming transfer business the summer.

The prestigious British newspaper stated that due to the Gunners needing to decrease the size of their squad Welbeck was one of the players that now had an uncertain future at the club.

The Hammers should look to take advantage of this situation and quickly swoop for the 27-year-old attacker as he is a better option for them to sign instead of Muto.

Welbeck, who currently earns £70,000-a-week at the Gunners (Source: Total Sportek),  is a proven Premier League talent unlike the Japanese forward as he previously scored 41 goals in 198 appearances in England’s top-flight.

This means that 27-year-old would be able to settle into life quicker at the London Stadium compared to Muto as he knows what is needed to excel in the Premier League from the get go.

Also unlike Muto, Welbeck is a versatile player who as well as being able to play a centre-forward is capable of featuring as a winger on either flank if needed.

This means by recruiting the current Gunners attacker Pellegrini will also welcome additional cover for his wingers as well as making up for the loss of Carroll.

With the Gunners potentially looking to get rid of Welbeck and the player’s contract due to expire next summer then the Hammers might be able to secure his services for a price they can afford, despite them already spending big this summer.

Therefore this all means that the Hammers should forget all about Muto and instead swoop for a proven Premier League talent in the form of Welbeck in order to sign a new forward this summer.
