West Ham have held talks with Getafe about signing Togo defender Djene this summer, according to Foot Mercato.

The football news outlet claim that the Hammers, Arsenal and Leicester City have all discussed a possible deal for the centre-back with the La Liga club, but that Tottenham are the English club that seem to be pursuing him the most at this stage.

Foot Mercato report that Getafe valued Djene as being worth £31.1million despite only paying £1.7million to sign him from Belgian side Sint-Truiden in July 2017.

It is believed that Atlético de Madrid are also keen on the 26-year-old enforcer and that Sevilla have already offered £17.8million for his services.

With several clubs actively pursuing his services then Djene is surely going to be on the move in this window. However it is hard to imagine Manuel Pellegrini being willing to sanction a big-money move in order to welcome another centre-back this summer. While the experienced manager may want another new face to bolster his backline, it’s likely he will go for a cheaper option. Foot Mercato’s report claims that Tottenham have no issues regarding his £31.1million price tag so it seems likely that they might be the Premier League side that will win the race for Djene’s services. The powerful enforcer flourished in his 36 La Liga appearances last season for Getafe and it’s easy to see why he has so many teams clambering for his services. Djene looks like the type of player who would naturally fit into a Premier League side but that doesn’t mean the Hammers should stump up the cash for him. After spending big on welcoming fellow centre-back Issa Diop, there are plenty of more reasonably priced options for the club to sign if they want to recruit another central defender before transfer deadline day.
