West Ham have bid £15.9million for Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida, according to NTV SPOR.

The Turkish broadcaster claim that the Hammers have made the eight-figure offer in order to join Everton and Liverpool in the race for the centre-back’s services this summer.

NTV Spor report that Besiktas will consider offers right up until the transfer window before selling Vida to the highest bidder.

It is believed that despite the 29-year-old enforcer being contracted to the Turkish giants until 2022, he looks certain to leave the club this summer.

OPINION

This report is hard to believe as surely the Hammers aren’t looking to spend a further £15.9million on aiming to improve their defence ahead of the next season. Manuel Pellegrini has already overseen the club splashing cash in order to bring in two new centre-backs in the form of Issa Diop and Fabian Balbuena this summer so it’s unlikely the club will be investing anymore funds in a new central defender anytime soon. If this report is true then the Hammers are unlikely to be successful as it’s hard to imagine them getting dragged into a bidding war for a player who already has two Premier League teams chasing his services. While Vida may end up arriving in England this summer after an impressive World Cup with Croatia if he ends up at the London Stadium it will be a turn up for the books. Therefore Hammers supporters shouldn’t expect to see the 6ft tall (Transfermarkt) enforcer in a West Ham kit anytime soon.
