West Bromwich Albion are bracing themselves for a renewed bid for Craig Dawson from West Ham, according to the Daily Mail.

The British newspaper claim that the Championship side believe that the Hammers as well as Burnley are going to make another attempt to sign their £20million-rated defender.

The Daily Mail report that the Baggies have drawn up a shortlist of candidates to replace Dawson, who earns £40,000-a-week at the WBA (Source: Spotrac), in case he departs.

OPINION

The Daily Mail claim that the Hammers and Burnley are still pursuing the Baggies’ right-back but it’s hard to understand why Manuel Pellegrini’s side would still be in the race let alone plotting a bid for the player. The Hammers previously had a £12million bid rejected for Dawson, as reported by the Daily Mirror, and that should have caused their pursuit of him to end. While Dawson can play as a right-back as well as centre-back he wouldn’t necessarily be an improvement on the club’s current options. The 28-year-old is a proven Premier League talent having made 153 appearances in England’s top-flight but his experience is one of his selling points. The Mirror’s report states Dawson has effectively thrown his toys out of the pram at the Baggies by refusing to take part in their pre-season training camp and the Hammers don’t need a negative influence like that rocking up at the club anytime soon.
