Ray Parlour heaped praise on Jack Wilshere and backed the midfielder to do well for West Ham next season.

The 45-year-old who won the Premier League with Arsenal on three occasions shared that he was gutted that the 5ft 6in tall (Transfermarkt) 26-year-old left his former side but shared that he thought he’d do well at the London Stadium.

Parlour described Wilshere as a magnificent player and claimed that he was going to be the main man in Manuel Pellegrini’s midfield in the upcoming 2018/19 campaign.

“I’m gutted that he’s left because I would love to see him still in an Arsenal shirt but I’m really pleased he’s gone to a club to play football because there is nothing worse than training hard all week and then sitting in the stands,” said Parlour, as quoted by the London Evening Standard.

“He is going to be their main man in midfield and will get a lot of game time.

“He is a magnificent player – there are only two players I’ve seen as youngsters come straight through to the first-team that I have thought ‘these are going to be top, top stars’. One was Jack and the other Cesc Fabregas.”

OPINION

Wilshere will have to earn his place in Pellegrini’s team after being recruited this summer but he is more than capable of cementing himself as a guaranteed starter. Parlour clearly feels the same as his statement show that he is backing Wilshere to shine for the Hammers in their upcoming campaign by claiming he’ll be their main midfielder. The 26-year-old dazzled for the Gunners last season in his 38 outings for them and his regular appearances showed that his terrible injury issues may finally be behind him. Wilshere has always appeared to be a fabulous talent capable of excelling in the Premier League but his tendency to end up on the sidelines has always stopped him fulfilling his true potential. Hammers supporters will be hoping for a new era under Pellegrini and will currently be wishing for Wilshere to do his part to ensure that next season is a positive experience for everyone involved with the club.
