Craig Bellamy has insisted that as long as West Ham play exciting football under Manuel Pellegrini then the club will be seen to have had a good 2018/19 season.

The Sky Sports pundit and retired Hammers attacker stated that all he wanted from his former club was for them to have a positive campaign and that their final league position wouldn’t matter to him as long as the football was good.

Bellamy shared that he thought as long as the team looked like they were making progress under the experienced manager than supporters would get behind their side.

“They went a different direction manager-wise with Pellegrini,” said Bellamy in an interview with the Daily Star.

“I think they’re one of those teams, like West Ham always are, and I think West Ham fans will be there not knowing.

“You never know with West Ham, as long as they play football that excites and as long as they see players willing to give their all.

“As long as they see a team that there’s something going on and they can say ‘we’re going to get better or we’re looking to do this’.

“They just need to see something ahead of them and West Ham fans will get behind them, and all I want is just a positive season for West Ham.

“I don’t care whether it’s mid-table but if they play exciting football, they excite the fans, they’ve got one or two players who have been brilliant, they’ve given their all, then it’s a good season for West Ham.”

OPINION

Bellamy is right to point out that league position isn’t the be all and end all but as a ball is yet to be kicked, there’s no need to write off the possibilities just yet. The Sky Sports pundit shared his wish for his former side in 2018/19 and if it comes true then lot of Hammers supporters will be happy. After watching David Moyes’ side lock up shop by playing uninspiring football then it will be nice to see Pellegrini play a team that excites supporters by giving them something to cheer about.  As Bellamy stated it is just important in the upcoming campaign that the Hammers make progress. There are a lot of new faces at the London Stadium this summer and not all of them will hit the ground running. Hammers fans saw last season with Marko Arnautovic that it’s important to allow players time to settle in as sometimes they need to gather their bearings before they can excel at the club.
