West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini has been searching far and wide for two new centre-backs this summer, with Toulouse star Issa Diop being brought in already to fill one of those gaps.

The Chilean mastermind is now on the hunt for a second enforcer this summer as he looks to overhaul the Hammers back line, with the club being linked with moves for several players in recent days.

There is however one player who they have not yet been linked to this summer who they must now move for immediately, with competition for his signature set to increase in the coming days: Colombia and Barcelona star Yerry Mina.

The 23-year-old giant has come to the fore at the World Cup for Los Cafeteros, scoring his third headed goal of the tournament as he equalised against England in the dying moments on Tuesday night.

While that was eventually a losing effort, Mina has firmly put himself in the sights of several of Europe’s top clubs amid his reportedly imminent exit from Barcelona.

Marca claim that Mina will ‘definitely’ leave the Catalan giants this summer, with Arthur Melo’s impending arrival meaning they will exceed their quota for non-EU players.

It is said that Barcelona will be hoping to double their money for Mina after signing him for £10.6million in January, and a £20million deal therefore looks to be on the table for West Ham.

The Hammers could also try and be a bit clever in attempting to get the 6ft 5in enforcer [Transfermarkt] on loan initially, before negotiating a permanent deal further down the line.

Whatever way the club do the deal, it is one that they must pursue this summer, with Mina being the perfect addition to their new-look defence.

Having him and Diop in the middle would give the Irons one of the best young defensive partnerships in the league, and would make them feared across the country.

Pellegrini has not seemingly explored the possibility of such a deal yet, but he must now move quickly to do so, with other clubs sure to come sniffing following Colombia’s elimination from the World Cup.
