West Ham are interested in signing Atlanta United midfielder Miguel Almiron, according to Guardian reporter Ed Aarons.

The trusted journalist, stated via his personal Twitter account on Friday, that the Hammers were keen on the 5ft 7in attacking midfielder (Transfermarkt) who has scored eight goals and assisted nine in the 19 appearances he has made in 2018 so far.

Aarons also revealed that the Hammers were unlikely to sign Almiron as well as Jack Wilshere but failed to specify why that would be the case.

OPINION

The 5ft 7in midfielder is one of the best players currently playing in the MLS and it would be interesting to see how he fairs in the English Premier League. However with Aarons saying his unlikely to be signed if Wilshere arrives then it seems like the Hammers won’t be making a move for him. Wilshere is thought to be on the verge of rocking up at the London Stadium with Sky Sports previously reporting that a deal to sign the midfielder whose contract at Arsenal recently expires was close. It’s hard to know why signing both midfielders isn’t possible as they would both offer the team different things. Almiron is a much more of an attack-minded pacey midfielder, who can also feature as a left-wing, and could cover for Manuel Lanzini’s absence from the Hammers team next season due to injury. The 24-year-old could easily work alongside Wilshere at the club as the former Gunners midfielder is hardly the most attacking midfielder around. Manuel Pellegrini should be trying to welcome as many midfielders to the club as possible as the club were depleted of options in that area of the team ahead of him arriving.
