West Ham are set to hold talks with Barcelona this weekend regarding the transfer of attacker Domingos Quina, according to Sky Sports.

The sports broadcaster reports on their live blog [8.10am] that the Hammers are to discuss a potential deal with the La Liga club for the transfer of the £8,000-a-week winger (source: Spotrac), who helped Portugal to a 5-0 win over Ukraine in the semi-finals at the UEFA Under-19 Championships.

Representatives of Barcelona jetted into Finland on Thursday (26 July) to catch the 18-year-old’s performance for his country, and the Irons are willing to part ways for a six-figure fee in excess of £600,000.

OPINION

It is evident that Barcelona are really keen to get the ball rolling quickly with this transfer, especially if their representatives flew out yesterday to catch him in action. However, it is hard to understand why they are willing to offload him to such a successful club, as it implies that they see potential and talent in him that West Ham do not. Boss Manuel Pellegrini has made a flurry of signings and he may have decided to part ways with the youngster to make room for the new arrivals, but it is a decision that the club could possibly regret in a few years’ time when the young ace develops into an even better player. It is a shame that Pellegrini has not seen the same potential in him that others can, but he will have to have his fingers crossed that his new signings perform well. Quina can go on to do great things in Spain, something which West Ham will miss out on.
