West Ham United must up their offer for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes, according to Sky Sports.

The outlet claims that West Ham are still in talks with the Portuguese club over the transfer of the 23-year-old, as The Hammers looking to reinforce their midfield.

As reported by Sky Sports previously, Manuel Pellegrini’s side have already made a £20million bid for the Portuguese international.

However, the most recent report claims that Sporting Lisbon want £25million for the player, with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid also interested in the midfield playmaker’s services.

OPINION

This is the signing that Manuel Pellegrini would have been hoping for in this summer transfer window. The 23-year-old is a supremely talented young midfielder, who can unlock defences with his passing ability and is also dangerous when running with the ball. Due to his age, the Portuguese can only get better and West Ham fans will hope he can develop his skills further at The London Stadium. However, due to the club’s haggling and desire to do a deal, the delay in securing the players signature has reportedly meant that Atletico Madrid are now interested. That’s bad news for The Hammers because Atletico are a massive club with Champions League football and are genuine title challengers in La Liga, the player will want to go there if he gets a sniff of their interest. Pellegrini’s side need to move quickly if they are to pull off this transfer coup, as bigger clubs are reportedly now getting involved in negotiations.
