West Ham are firmly in the hunt to sign Corinthians and Paraguay international forward Angel Romero, according to a club insider.

ExWHUemployee, who is an established source for insider Hammers information on Twitter, posted on Monday morning that the club were very keen on a deal for the 26-year-old dazzler.

Ex claimed that both manager Manuel Pellegrini and director of football Mario Husillos were well aware of Romero’s talents, with the club having already recruited Fabian Balbuena from the Brazilian club this summer.

OPINION

It looks like the Hammers are chasing one final deal this summer, with Pellegrini looking to bring in a striker following Andy Carroll’s injury setback. However, after a window of big spending, the club are obviously on the prowl for a deal that represents good value for money, and South America is often the place to go for such bargains. Having already established a relationship with Corinthians this summer following the signing of Balbuena, this looks like a deal which is very attainable for the club. Romero is mainly deployed as a winger by Corinthians, and has scored two goals and provided five assists in 14 appearances so far this season for the Sao Paulo side. His 13 international caps for Paraguay suggest that he is a decent enough player, but there may be some questions over his ability to translate his form to the Premier League. Either way, there is no movement yet, but this would be an interesting one for the Hammers if they do decide to formalise their interest.
