West Ham are very keen on signing Sevilla midfielder Steven Nzonzi, according to Le 10 Sport.

The French outlet claims that West Ham face competition from Everton for the 29-year-old international midfielder, who is currently in Russia with France.

His side face Belgium in the first of the World Cup semi-finals on Tuesday night.

Le 10 Sport claims that West Ham’s interest in the player is growing, although the London side are yet to make a formal offer.

They claim that could change after the World Cup is finished.

According to the Daily Star, the player has a £35million release clause and has handed in a transfer request.

OPINION

Sevilla snapped up a real bargain when Stoke sold Nzonzi to them for just £7million in 2015. The towering 6ft 5in giant has since gone on to make 136 appearances for them and has broken into the France  team late last year, and has since won six caps. That’s a big turnaround for Nzonzi and proof of the form that he’s found in La Liga for Sevilla. Now it looks like a return to the Premier League is on the cards, and Nzonzi will feel like he’s got unfinished business here. West Ham won’t have it all their own way, with Everton and Arsenal also firmly in the hunt for the midfielder. West Ham look like they’re going to complete deals for both Jack Wilshere and Andriy Yarmolenko shortly, and Nzonzi would be another exciting addition as Manuel Pellegrini looks to stamp his look on the team ready for next season. £35million is a lot of money for someone who might not have a huge resale value in three-four years time, but West Ham would be getting hold of a seriously talented player.
