West Ham striker Javier Hernandez has not had the best of times since his arrival in East London in 2017, especially as he was once prolific for Manchester United and Bayer Leverkusen.

Manager Manuel Pellegrini needs another striker to bring the best out of him and get him firing more regularly – and the Hammers should look no further than Watford forward Troy Deeney.

The Sun have reported that Cardiff City are eyeing up a £15 million move for the Premier League mainstay  on their radar – however, the Irons must raid this pursuit and pounce for the 30-year-old themselves, in order to bring Hernandez back to his best and challenge for Europe.

The Hammers are more than capable of competing for Europe in the upcoming season, even if it does sound ambitious. Their serious intent in the transfer window only goes to indicate what a formidable force they will be.

Nevertheless, they need to solve Hernandez’ woes in front of goal. So far, he has been playing with fellow frontman Marko Arnautovic, who has not brought the best out of him.

That is not to say the Hammers should bin him, but the addition of Deeney would freshen up their attack and ensure they are more prolific in taking their chances in the final third.

If this happens, West Ham will definitely be amongst the mix for Europe.

Deeney has netted 31 goals in the past three seasons, which is not prolific as the club would like, but that would not matter if he is sharing the burden of goals with the Mexican international.

They need to add something new to their attack if they want anything to show for their new signings.

Getting Hernandez back to his old self needs to be the priority – and they must pounce for Deeney to ensure that happens and propel themselves into Europe contenders.
