West Ham are being linked to exciting big-money signings all over the shop but a smart loan swoop for Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks would be a clever bit of business.

The Hammers most recently found themselves connected with making a move for Jean-Michael Seri, as reported by The Sun, who has a £35million release clause.

While there’s no doubting his qualities, it’s not all about spending big to get the best talents through the door.

Manuel Pellegrini is a wise manager who is no doubt aware of this and will carefully spend his hopefully huge transfer budget as best as he possibly can to get every little bit of value out of every deal.

The former Manchester City boss in his hunt to boost the Hammers midfield options, that area of the team is in need of renovation, should try his luck by asking about Spurs’ classy central midfielder Winks.

The 22-year-old underwent surgery in May, as reported by Sky Sports, to see himself fit enough to start the new season.

Yet Mauricio Pochettino’s side should be pushing on with their ambitions to be serious title contenders in the next campaign and that means they might not be able to regularly play Winks.

After looking like the real deal in their midfielder, Winks’ ankle injuries held him back as in the games he did get to feature in during the most recent season, he made 25 appearances, he looked a little worse for wear.

In particular the midfielder was only able to show the Premier League glimpses of his talent in his 18 league outings.

With regular football under his belt, the 22-year-old’s promising career will be back on track and his sublime passing will bring success to Spurs in their future.

However for now it seems it would be for the best if he went and regained his fitness at another Premier League club and the Hammers are the ideal option.

Pellegrini’s team would benefit from a young pair of legs in the centre of their midfield, especially ones as talented as Wink’s, and it would be a good move for all parties.

Also the money saved from signing Winks on loan for the season, rather than a big-name signing, could then be invested in other needed recruits for the Hammers squad and would prove to be a smart bit of business.

Therefore the Hammers should play it smart and test the waters regarding the availability of Winks next season as it could see a classy player join their club without their budget being blown.
