West Ham have tabled a £17.4million proposal to sign Juventus midfielder Stefano Sturaro, according to TuttoSport.

The Italian publication claim that the Hammers are willing to pay 18 million euros (£15.7million) and 2 million euros (£1.75million) in bonuses for the highly-decorated 25-year-old.

TuttoSport report that the Hammers due to making this offer now sit in pole position when it comes to signing Sturaro ahead of Everton, Newcastle United and Leicester City, who are all thought to be keen on him.

Good Move for West Ham?

Yes, though he may eventually prove to be too costly of an option given the interest in him.

The 25-year-old has won Serie A four times with Juventus while also winning four Italian Cups and one Italian Super Cup to see his trophy cabinet packed with honours.

The midfielder would add a serial winning mentality to the current Hammers squad due to this and his experience of lifting silverware could be invaluable in the seasons to come.

Sturaro can play as a central midfielder, defensive midfielder as well as a right-back and his tackling ability would instantly help the Hammers stop shipping goals.

Likely to happen?

Well there’s a definitely chance.

TuttoSport report that while the Hammers are now in pole position, the newspaper cannot rule out other teams overtaking them.

While it’s unlikely to be the Magpies that outbid the Londoners for the midfielder, Everton and Leicester City are very capable of bidding higher than £17.4million for the 25-year-old if they decide they really want him.

However the Hammers have shown in this window that they are more than capable of swiftly abandoning pursuits of players if they become too costly to purchase.
