West Ham have tabled a huge bid for Toulouse defender Issa Diop, according to L’Equipe.

The French sports paper claim that the Hammers have offered a sum of between £13.2million and £17.6million for the Frenchman as they look to reinforce their backline ahead of next season.

L’Equipe report that Ligue 1 club Toulouse have yet to respond to the bid from the Premier League outfit, amid interest in the player from Sevilla, Everton, Fulham and Red Bull Leipzig.

OPINION

With Mario Husillos appointed as the new director of football and his long-standing ally Manuel Pellegrini getting his feet under the manager’s table, there is frenetic transfer activity at West Ham. Certainly, a quality centre-back or two must be a priority for the club following their defensive woes of last season when they had the equal worst goals conceded record in the Premier League. Standing at 6ft 4in (source: Transfermarkt), Diop is a commanding centre-back who made huge strides in the recent season as he continued to build on his breakthrough 2016-17 campaign. He has the physique and skill-set to make a big impact in the more demanding English top flight, and can go on to be a mainstay of the France national team in the coming years after already accumulating five caps for the Under-21s. With L’Equipe one of the most reputable transfer sources in football journalism, it appears West Ham are working hard to seal a landmark capture.
