West Ham have slapped a £60million price tag on the head of forward Marko Arnautovic with Manchester United circling, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper claim that the Hammers’ official position regarding their star player is that they don’t want to sell him but with Man United yet to end their interest the club are bracing themselves for a bid.

The Daily Mirror report that Arnautovic, who the club signed from Stoke City for £24million last summer, has emerged as a shock target for Jose Mourinho’s side.

OPINION

This is a stunning price tag to slap on Arnautovic’s head summer when you consider it’s over double what the club paid to get him nearly a year ago. The forward ended the season having scored 11 goals in 35 outings across all competitions with his form in the second half of the season being particularly impressive. While it’s crazy that his value could have skyrocketed so much if the forward wasn’t at the club last season then relegation could have occurred. Arnautovic was one of the only Hammers players who constantly delivered the goods, once he got going, in order to ensure that the club flew away from the relegation zone. It’s nice to read that the Hammers’ officially don’t want to sell the powerhouse forward but it’s concerning that Man United are expected to try and pry him away. The allure of playing in the Champions League next season with Mourinho’s men might be too tempting for Arnautovic to ignore and there could be problems on the horizon if they try to unsettle him by making an offer.
