West Ham are in advanced talks to recruit Mario Husillos as their new recruitment chief after the path was cleared by his exit from Malaga, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper claim the Argentine has left the Spanish club to take charge at the London Stadium after Malaga announced his exit on their official Twitter account on Tuesday night.

The Mail report that recently-appointed manager Manuel Pellegrini has recommended Husillos take on the sporting director role at West Ham after they worked successful together at Malaga earlier in the decade.

OPINION

With first summer signing Ryan Fredericks over the line, West Ham are now set to follow up by announcing the appointment of a new technical director. Husillos’ record in recent times does not inspire great confidence. He joined Malaga for a second spell last October but his eight January signings were not enough to prevent the club nosediving into the Spanish second tier. This is a far cry from his first spell at Malaga, where he forged a close relationship with then-manager Pellegrini as they steered the club to a second-placed finish and helped them punch well above their weight. It is this achievement that the West Ham hierarchy are putting great store in as they aim to make the adjustments that can catapult the team up the league following two seasons of treading water and miserable football. Much will depend upon summer recruitment and an early appointment in the window is key to giving Husillos the time to make an impact.
