West Ham United are interested in a move for Porto midfielder Hector Herrera, according to Correio da Manha.

The Portuguese newspaper, as translated by Sport Witness, report that the Hammers are showing signs that they may make a bid for the 28-year-old this summer, with Arsenal, Everton, Roma and Real Betis also interested.

Correio de Manha claim that Porto would demand a cut-price £13million for his services, with the Mexico international pass master having just one year left on his deal with the Portuguese champions.

Good move for West Ham?

Absolutely.

Herrera is currently starring for Mexico at the World Cup, and has been instrumental in guiding El Tri to the knockout stages, with Germany being eliminated in the process.

The 28-year-old is also coming off a brilliant season for Porto in which he scored five goals and registered seven assists in 42 games in all competitions.

It is rare that the opportunity arises to secure an international-grade midfielder for just £13million, and this would be a brilliant signing for the Hammers if they could pull it off, with reinforcements needed in midfield.

Likely to happen?

Considering that Herrera has just one year remaining on his deal with Porto, and the fact that he is currently impressing on the world stage, you would think that an exit is on the cards this summer.

And, with the riches that the Premier League has to offer, a move to England is most certainly a likely option for Herrera this summer, who will be looking for a big contract.

If the Hammers manage to table a bid soon, and show that they are serious in their interest, then there is no reason why they cannot beat out the other teams in this race and sign Herrera this summer.

However, there is no sign that will happen yet, and we will have to wait and see how the club proceed after the World Cup.
