West Ham are in the hunt to sign Borussia Dortmund attacking midfielder Mario Gotze, according to Sky Sports.

The broadcaster report that the Hammers are among three Premier League sides in pursuit of the 2014 World Cup winner, with Arsenal and Everton also in pursuit.

Sky Sports claim that Dortmund are keen to recoup much of the £22million they spent to secure the 26-year-old maestro’s return from Bayern Munich in 2016.

Good move for West Ham?

Absolutely.

Despite his recent struggles with injury and form, Gotze is still a brilliant playmaker, and would be a wonderful addition to the West Ham squad.

He endured a tough 2017/18 season following his recovery from a metabolic disorder, but showed flashes of that quality towards the end of the campaign, and that bodes well for the Hammers to swoop this summer.

The 26-year-old will not come cheap, but with Manuel Pellegrini set to have a big budget this summer, a fee of around £20million is definitely within the club’s capabilities.

Forever West Ham rating: 9/10

Likely to happen?

It looks as though there are several teams in the race for Gotze’s signature, with Arsenal posing the biggest problem for the Hammers.

If the Gunners are serious in their interest and make a bid, there would seemingly be little to stop them from getting a deal over the line.

However, the Hammers would be in a good position should they firm up their interest first, but it is yet to be seen if the club will do that with several other moves already on the table.
