West Ham are interested in signing AZ Alkmaar attacker Wout Weghorst, according to RTV Oost.

The local Dutch broadcaster claim that the Hammers are latest club to join the race for his signature with the 6ft 5in tall forward (as stated by Transfermarkt) already attracting interest from sides in Spain and Germany.

RTV Oost report that Weghorst made it known at the end of his 2017/18 campaign that he was ready to leave AZ in order to take the next step in his career.

Good move for West Ham?

Yes, if he can translate his form to the English Premier League.

The 25-year-old had an amazing 2017/18 campaign as he scored 27 goals in 37 appearances and was consistently clinical in front of goal throughout the season, no matter his opponents.

Weghorst would certainly be a fantastic addition to Manuel Pellegrini’s attacking options if the Hammers successfully signed him based on this steps, but he has never played his domestic football outside of the Netherlands.

While many great players have joined English sides from the Dutch league there have been a fair share of players who haven’t been able to adapt to the Premier League and have seen them dubbed as flops.

This deal could be a stroke of genius but it all depends on the price whether it’s worth pursuing.

Likely to happen?

RTV Oost state that they’re 99% certain that Weghorst will soon depart AZ so a move this summer for him is defiantly on the cards.

However it seems the Hammers have only just entered the race for his services so it’s hard to tell how serious their interest is in him at this stage.

Also the Dutch broadcaster also cite that the interest coming from Germany in the forward is concrete so the Hammers may need to decide about whether to make a move quickly in order to not miss out.

Given how this is the first time Weghorst has been linked with a move to the London Stadium, this one looks unlikely to happen at this stage.
