West Ham are in pole position to sign Anderlecht defender Leander Dendoncker, according to RMC Sport.

The French news outlet share that even though the in-demand enforcer has plenty of offers, including interest from Lyon, the Hammers are on pole when it comes to getting his signature.

RMC Sport report that the Belgian giants believe they can recover £26.4million (€30million) from the sale of Dendoncker but know that if it emerges that he wants to join another club, such as Lyon, they could let him go for a little bit less than that figure.

Good move for West Ham?

Yes.

The Hammers appear to be as keen as ever on the 23-year-old centre-back who they were constantly linked to in the January window.

The Daily Mail previously reported ahead of David Moyes leaving the club that the Hammers were mulling over the idea of making a bid for Dendoncker in the summer.

Yet the British newspaper stated that a fee in the region of £18million would be enough to seal a deal, but it seems like Lyon’s interest in the enforcer has once again driven his price up.

After putting in several fantastic displays during his 44 appearances for Anderlecht in the 2017/18 season, he would be a great signing for the Hammers in this window.

Dendoncker is able to switch from being a defensive midfielder to a centre-back with great ease and his versatility would be welcomed.

Likely to happen?

At this point it’s hard to know why the Hammers don’t go all out to sign the enforcer as clearly there must be some truth to their interest.

While it’s unknown how current manager Pellegrini views the 23-year-old, surely he would be impressed with the player’s potential at the very least.

It’s hard to directly state that this deal will definitely happen despite the club being in pole position as after failing to get him before who knows what is going on in the Hammers’ ongoing pursuit of Dendoncker.

However according to RMC Sport’s report the defender’s future won’t be decided until after he has finished representing Belgium at the World Cup.
