West Ham United have held preliminary talks with Aston Villa over a move for midfield sensation Jack Grealish, according to the Express.

The newspaper report that the Hammers have however taken a step back after learning of Villa’s £40million valuation of the 22-year-old midfield dynamo.

The Express claim that the club are still keeping a keen eye on the situation with regards to Grealish, with the Irons ready to come back in for him should the Villans lower their demands.

It is said that Villa owner Dr. Tony Xia has sanctioned the sale of Grealish in an attempt to meet Financial Fair Play regulations next season.

Good move for West Ham?

Yes.

Grealish was instrumental for boyhood club Villa this season after returning from a serious kidney injury sustained at the beginning of the season.

The 22-year-old was a key cog in Steve Bruce’s side during their run to the play-off final, and nearly single-handedly drew them level against Fulham despite being the most-fouled player ever in the history of the Championship money spinner.

Grealish would bring dynamism and energy to the Hammers attack, and could potentially go on to be a real star at the London Stadium, and the club would do well to secure a deal for him at the right price.

Likely to happen?

At this point, no.

Villa are seemingly holding out for £40million for Grealish, and in many ways that is understandable.

The 22-year-old is their prized asset, and they will be loathe to let him go, so a high price would soften the blow considerably.

However, it is somewhat unlikely that any club will be willing to pay £40million for the youngster, and the Hammers do look to be in a good position to strike should they end up lowering their demands.
