West Ham reportedly face a battle to keep hold of starlet Declan Rice after he rejected a derisory contract offer, and fans have taken to Twitter to destroy the board for their actions.
According to a worrying report in the Daily Mail, the club have offered Rice a measly deal worth just £8,000-a-week, with the 19-year-old said to be left disappointed by the tabled contract.
Rice currently earns around £3,000-a-week, and has been locked in talks over a new deal at the London Stadium, but the club’s offer comes in well below what they are shelling out to new signing Ryan Fredericks, who has no Premier League experience.
It is said that the contract stand-off has meant other Premier League clubs are on red alert, with Rice widely seen as one of the country’s top young prospects.
The young Republic of Ireland international is coming off an impressive breakthrough season that saw him become a mainstay in defence for the Hammers with 31 appearances in all competitions.
Fans have now taken to Twitter to slam the club for their failure to offer Rice a decent deal, with many calling the offer embarrassing and expressing their worries about potentially losing the 19-year-old to a rival.

So apparently our “new and improved” contract offer to Declan Rice was £8,000 per week and now we face a fight to keep him.
What an embarrassing and insulting offer for a first-team 19 year-old who has far more talent than some of our players on £50,000+ per week

Never in a million years should Declan Rice settle on £8k a week. It’s the principal of earning far less money than colleagues you’re better than.

It genuinely does baffle me how the board's brains work at times.
How can you offer Declan Rice, the best youngster this club has had in many years, only £8,000 a week, yet offer a 37 year old donkey in Patrice Evra around £70,000 a week?

We as fans of the club know how precious @_DeclanRice is, if the board don’t pull their finger out and we lose him. It’s going to be the worst thing to happen to this football club for years. Future captain there being mugged off because he’s young. It’s about ability not age.

A leopard never changes its spots. £8k a week offer to Declan Rice is an insult. He should be on 4 times that amount. Always 1 step forward 10 steps back with that lot. I stick by the fact we cannot progress as a club under their ownership #DildoBrothersStrikeAgain

Regular first team player and you offer @_DeclanRice £8k a week. That’s nothing but an embarrassing offer for a player who has a bright future for West Ham. Have some decency @davidgold and offer the lad something better. Absolute disgrace!

Losing Declan Rice to a balls up with a contract renewal would be the worst piece of business and West Ham’s biggest mistake for a very long time.
that is saying something. #COYI #WHUFC

Seriously @davidgold If you think this is how you move forwards as a football club, you should maybe consider leaving, disgusting treatment of one of our best players last year – https://t.co/d78HEMFTsA
