West Ham United have confirmed the appointment of Mario Husillos as their new director of football, and fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news.
As announced on the club’s official website, the 59-year-old Argentine joins the club after a spell at La Liga side Malaga, where he was acting as a sporting director for the second time.
Husillos previously worked at the Andalusian club with manager Manuel Pellegrini, with the duo harking in the most successful period of the club’s recent history.
A number of brilliant signings saw Malaga first qualify for the Champions League before qualifying for the knockout stages of the competition and advancing to the quarter-finals for the first time in their history.
Husillos has penned a three-year deal at the London Stadium as he reunites with Pellegrini, with the two sharing a close working relationship from their time in Spain together.
There have been reservations about Husillos following his second spell at Malaga recently, with the 59-year-old making a series of failed January signings which contributed to the club’s relegation to the Segunda Division.
However, Hammers fans who have reacted to the news on Twitter seem to be delighted with the appointment as the club set about their work in the summer transfer window.

Only time will tell if Sullivan is truly ready to let Husillos & Pellegrini have full control of transfers at the club.
Nonetheless it’s a massive appointment and a step in the right direction! https://t.co/zkhuS2e1Z1
