West Ham are close to making Lazio wide forward Felipe Anderson their club-record signing, according to the Telegraph.

The newspaper claim the Premier League outfit are “increasingly confident” of prising the one-time Brazil international from the Serie A club for a fee of around £35million.

The Telegraph report a source as saying there is a “big chance” the deal will soon be completed following progress in discussions between Anderson’s representatives and West Ham.

West Ham have already secured a new transfer record this week, with co-owner David Gold claiming on his personal Twitter account the club have paid £23million-plus for defender Issa Diop, who was signed from Toulouse yesterday. It would be a huge signal of intent and ambition were the Irons to smash their record to smithereens by paying £12million beyond that sum for Anderson. Is the Brazilian wide forward worth going above and beyond for? Yes, he is. Anderson would be comfortably West Ham’s most exciting signing yet this summer – there have been three new arrivals in the last fortnight – and their most eyecatching since the capture of Dimitri Payet in the summer of 2015. Mobile, crafty and capable of creating and scoring goals regularly, Anderson has established an excellent reputation in Serie A over the last five years. He is 25, entering his peak years and able to win matches on his own. It’s time for Irons to start getting excited.
