OPINION
Signing the right-back from Fulham is one thing. Landing a 29-times Argentina attacker who is still only 28 and has a track record to die for is another completely. Pastore has been linked with the giants of the Premier League in the past but he has preferred to spend the bulk of his career in France and Italy. He has slipped down the pecking order at PSG since the world-record arrivals of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe last summer – no disgrace in that – but he still managed to make 37 appearances in the recently completed season for the French champions. It is Pastore’s impressive skill-set and track record that will make Hammers fans gasp. His touch, technique, vision and all-round ability is on a par with Dmitri Payet, arguably the outstanding player to have represented the club since Paulo Di Canio was in his pomp. Signing a player of such quality would be a stunning statement if West Ham could pull it off.
