West Ham have offered starlet Declan Rice a new deal worth nearly double the £8,000-a-week that is being widely reported in the press, according to Claret and Hugh.

The Hammers news website, which is an established source for reliable insider information, claim that the club have instead tabled a deal worth £15,000-a-week for the 19-year-old defender.

Claret and Hugh claim that Rice could end up earning around £30,000-a-week including add-ons, with the club believing a basic wage of that level would be spoiling the youngster.

It is said that Rice and his agents are pursuing a deal worth £20,000-a-week in basic wages.

This is a massive update on the story following the Daily Mail report in which the £8,000-a-week claims first emerged.

OPINION

An offer of £15,000-a-week seems more realistic for the club to make, and with Claret and Hugh being such a reliable source for club information, it does look like this is is the true figure tabled. As misinformed and crafty the West Ham board is, there is no way that they would be stupid enough to table an offer of just £8,000-a-week for Rice, who has become one of the club’s most important players in the last season. Everyone at the London Stadium will be well aware of Rice’s value to West Ham, and they will be doing all they can to keep hold of him this summer. If they were to somehow let him leave then the fans would never forgive them, with Rice tipped as a future club captain, and the board will also be aware of that fact. It does look like the two parties will come to an agreement soon, with the club sure to be accommodating of Rice’s requests.
