West Ham are a long way from sealing the sensational signing of Paris Saint-Germain attacker Javier Pastore, according to a reliable journalist.
ESPN FC’s France correspondent Jonathan Johnson took to his personal Twitter account to report that he had been told by the Argentina international’s camp that the player is “unaware” of interest from the Hammers.
Johnson explained that the 28-year-old’s future is up in the air and much depends upon talks with newly-appointed manager Thomas Tuchel but added his situation would change rapidly were PSG to accept a West ham offer.

A source close to Javier Pastore has told me el Flaco is currently unaware of any interest from West Ham United. That could change, of course, if PSG accept the offer. I am also told Pastore is undecided over his future in Paris as he has not yet spoken with Thomas Tuchel. #COYI https://t.co/lw65v6EWbO

OPINION
Hold your horses. That’s the message from reliable France-based journalist Johnson as he urges caution to West Ham followers planning to buy their replica Pastore shirts in the multi tens of thousands. West Ham’s board have a history of leaking details of deals they are not close to sealing, and the relay of information to a reliable Sky Sports journalist about the club being in talks to sign Pastore appears to fit into this category. That said, the Argentine could very well be heading out of the French big hitters this summer after losing his regular starting spot following the world-record arrivals of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe last summer. West Ham sense a sensational deal. Pastore would certainly be an exciting Dimitri Payet-style recruit who would shift shirts and nutmeg defenders for fun. But there will need to be an immense amount of work and negotiation needed to seal a deal. The foundations are being laid, but it is no more than that at this stage.
