West Ham are not desperate to sell Andy Carroll this summer but will listen to any good offer that comes in for him, according to a reliable journalist.

Football.London journalist Sam Inkersole stated during a Q&A for the website that the Hammers may choose to cash-in on the forward, who earns £100,000-per-week (source: Daily Mirror) as his contract expires next summer.

However the trusted journalist did go on to suggest that Manuel Pellegrini could see Carroll as an asset if he was able to prove his fitness to the new Hammers boss.

“West Ham aren’t in any desperate need to sell Andy Carroll this summer but if a good enough offer comes in, then it’ll be listened to,” wrote Inkersole.

“His contract runs out at the end of the season so the club may well decide to cash in before the start of this season but if he does manage to prove his fitness to Pellegrini, then I think the manager will still believe the striker could be an asset.

“Carroll’s prohibitive wages might put some teams off trying to sign him, however, so the Hammers could get stuck with him anyway.”

OPINION

It’s ridiculous how much money an injury-prone player like Carroll is on. It feels like the majority of the forward’s Hammers career has been spent in the medical room and it’s insane that with his contract set to go in 2019 that the club aren’t actively trying to sell him. Carroll only managed three goals in his 2017/18 campaign despite featuring 18 times and if anyone is interested the Hammers should be ringing them up. While fitness has always held Carroll back at the London Stadium there is a huge question mark over his attitude as well. There were many negative stories regarding the player being frustrated at his playing time, including a well documented bust up with David Moyes, and that toxic presence helps no one. However based on Inkersole’s comment on the player’s wages, it seems the Hammers may be resigned to being stuck with him due to previously handing him a very lucrative deal that no one else would give him.
