West Ham fans on social media directly urged midfielder Joao Mario to join the Hammers in order to be at the club next season.

The Hammer’s official Twitter account caused fans to inadvertently emerge in their drones in order to inform the 25-year-old playmaker that he needed to be at the London Stadium next season, as the club announced he was going to the World Cup with Portugal.

Mario responded to the club’s post by simply posting thank you for the congratulatory message, only to have his social media feed then bombarded with Hammers fans urging him to sign a contract with the club.

The 25-year-old had spent the second half of the recently concluded season on loan at the London Stadium from Inter Milan and fans weren’t keen to see him go with his loan deal set to expire.

One supporter tweeted that the midfielder shouldn’t forget how well the Hammers kit suited him with another simply telling him to sign the “ting.”

The Daily Mirror’s live transfer blog (Tuesday, 12:47) previously reported that the Hammers were set to walk away from attempting to sign Mario on a permanent basis as Inter Milan had slapped a £30million price tag on his head.

The newspaper claimed the Hammers weren’t willing to stump up the cash even though they were impressed with his performances in the final games of the season.
