West Ham are reportedly closing in on the signing of Premier League great Yaya Toure – and fans have delivered mixed verdicts on Twitter.
The Telegraph are among multiple outlets that claim the imminent arrival of Manuel Pellegrini as the new manager has increased the likelihood of the club snapping up his former star player at Manchester City, Toure.
The Ivory Coast international is a free agent after the expiry of his City contract and has said he is keen to continue playing in the Premier League.
Toure, 35, has won three Premier League titles and been one of the outstanding performers of the Abu Dhabi era but he’s operated as a fringe player since Pep Guardiola replaced Pellegrini at Etihad Stadium in the summer of 2016.
Hammers supporters are split on whether he is the blockbuster signing they need this summer, with some claiming he is over the hill and lacks the legs and energy to be a key man.
Others claim the capture of such a polished and proven player would be a real feather in the cap for the London club.
Forever West Ham has rounded up some of the best tweets:
Many of my fellow #Hammers fans will disagree with me….but I DON’T want us to sign Yaya Toure! It’s not progressive and we need to utilise our strong youth squad or buy younger, promising players with great ability!! #COYI #WHUFC

Yaya toure is 100% not what we need right now if MP comes in! We already have enough players who just walk around the pitch #whufc
