It is obviously clear that West Ham need to fix their defence in the summer transfer window and bringing in a few new options to bolster the squad has to be a priority.

Declan Rice, Angelo Ogbonna and Aaron Cresswell all have positives to offer the Hammers, but they can be improved on and there is a distinct lack of options.

The Sun reported in April that they were interested in singing Newcastle enforcer Jamaal Lascelles and were planning a £15million move.

The report detailed that David Moyes’ side were keen on the centre-back ahead of the summer and was identified as a main target.

However, the Londoners should now up their interest in the Newcastle captain and try to pull out all the stops to sign him at the end of the season.

The Daily Mirror now reports that Premier League rivals Everton are lining up a £25million raid for Lascelles, whole Chelsea and Tottenham are also believed to be keen.

West Ham should not be wiling to lose out on the 24-year-old and pay a huge eight-figure fee to bring him to the London Stadium.

Lascelles has proven he is Premier League quality with some commanding displays for Newcastle this term and he is the leader that the Hammers are missing in defence.

He is a physically imposing player that would definitely improve the West Ham backline and is still yet to enter the peak years of his career.

The centre-back is being tipped to become a future England international and is the sort of high-profile addition that could improve the team ahead of next season.

There is no doubt that West Ham will have to be a far more structured unit next year if they want to be challenging for the European positions and having Lascelles in the heart of defence could see massive improvements on the pitch.
