West Ham are reportedly interested in a deal for Brighton defender Connor Goldson, but the club should ditch those plans immediately and need to be aiming much higher in the summer transfer window.

The Daily Mail reports that the Hammers are keen on the 25-year-old enforcer and that Scottish giants Rangers are lining up a £2million bid for him.

However, the 6ft 3in colossus has not been a regular in the Brighton starting XI and quite simply is not proven enough at top-flight level to warrant West Ham’s interest.

The Daily Mirror reports that Manuel Pellegrini has agreed terms to become the next manager at the London Stadium, with a Wednesday announcement expected, and his transfer targets need to be far more ambitious.

West Ham should consider a move to sign Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala, something that Pellegrini should be able to help smooth over with his former employees.

The 27-year-old has been frozen out for playing time at the Etihad Stadium and was even sent out on loan this season, but an injury halted his progress at Everton.

However, it would be a no-brainer to try bring the Frenchman to to the London Stadium and he would beef up competition in defence.

The Sun reports that newly-promoted Wolves are keen on signing Mangala, who is on a £85,000-a-week deal and is not set to feature in Man City’s plans.

West Ham should hijack their interest with a deal and the no-nonsense centre-back has the ability to be a force in the Premier League under the right mentor.
