West Ham have put their move for HNK Rijeka goalkeeper Simon Sluga temporarily on hold, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper claims in its live transfer blog (9:50pm, Saturday 20th March) that the Hammers were on the verge of landing the shot-stopper from Rijeka, who are second in the Croatian top flight.

However, it is understood that the Premier League outfit have had to halt their £2.5million move for the time being in a fresh twist.

The report details that David Moyes’ sudden exit at the end of the season has cast doubt over a deal after his scouts have eyed Sluga and a revival of any move will depend on the next manager at the London Stadium.

Good move for West Ham?

Sluga was at one point poised to join West Ham and he appeared to be available at a decent sum of just £2.5million.

The 6ft 3in colossus is an imposing figure in goal and does have a decent amount of experience behind him.

He has been the number one option this season, keeping 13 clean sheets in 39 appearances across all competitions.

The former Croatia Under-21 international has played European football before and would help fill a problem position in goal for West Ham.

However, playing in the Premier League would be a completely different beast to the Croatian league and a deal would come at some risk.

Forever West Ham rating: 5/10

Likely to happen?

Sluga appears to be very much a player on Moyes’ radar and it is highly probable that the new manager will come in with his own list of transfer targets.
