West Ham saw themselves dragged back into the relegation fight following a 4-1 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday which, accompanied by Southampton’s victory over Bournemouth, leaves the Hammers just three points clear of the relegation zone.

David Moyes’ side face a stern test to finish the season as they travel to face Leicester City this weekend, before finishing the campaign with two home matches against Manchester United and Everton – the latter of which may be crucial, with the relegation fight potentially going down to the final day.

It’s been a rollercoaster campaign at the London Stadium and Hammers veteran Pablo Zabaleta believes the uncertainty regarding who is the club’s first-choice goalkeeper has affected the club’s survival hopes, with Moyes regularly switching between Joe Hart and Adrian.

“That situation has not been easy for both goalkeepers. Sometimes as a goalkeeper you need the confidence of keeping your place in the starting XI. And for different reasons sometimes they’ve been dropped and they’ve been playing some part of the season.”

“Both of them have been trying to do their best for the team so obviously the team selection, who is going to place the next game, is for the manager to decide. We cannot do anything about it.”

Adrian was back between the sticks for the defeat to Manchester City, as Joe Hart was unable to feature against his former club, and it remains to be seen who Moyes will select for the clash against the Foxes.
