West Ham and Everton are in a fierce battle to appoint their next manager, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper claimed in its live transfer blog (10:59pm, Sunday) that the Hammers want to land ex-Watford boss Marco Silva as David Moyes’ replacement.

However, it is understood that they are in a tug-of-war with Everton for the 40-year-old, who is available and is yet to find a new role since leaving Watford in January.

The report details that the Everton squad are convinced Silva will be the next man in charge at Goodison Park to succeed Sam Allardyce, but West Ham offer serious competition to land him.

Everton were believed to be eyeing Shakhtar Donetsk manager Paulo Fonseca, but it appears he is stalling on interest because he is also on West Ham’s radar.

OPINION

West Ham need to try appoint a new man at the helm quickly and fans seem to believe that Moyes won’t get a crack next season despite keeping them in the Premier League. Silva is a young upcoming manager that has dazzled in patches with his attractive style of football, something that would make him hugely popular at the London Stadium. However, he is yet to show any kind of longevity in the English game and it’s unclear whether he could be a strong long-term solution for the Hammers. There is also the added complication of Everton’s interest in Silva and it will be interesting to see where he ends up this summer. West Ham need to ensure that they get the next appointment right and hopefully can find someone that will help them move forward. They have just endured a below mediocre season after finishing 13th in the league table and need to try ensure they are competing around the European spots next season.
