West Ham United are leading the hunt for Huddersfield midfielder Aaron Mooy, according to The Times.

The newsapaper report that the Terriers are bracing themselves for a battle to keep the talented 27-year-old, who has been a star of their first campaign in the top-flight.

The Times claim that Mooy is Huddersfield’s best-paid player earning £32,000-a-week, and the Hammers would easily be able to double that money at the London Stadium.

It is said that Mooy is also attracting interest from elsewhere and Huddersfield are likely to offer him a new deal to ward off suitors.

Good move for West Ham?

Yes.

Mooy has been one of the stars of Huddersfield’s successful first season in the Premier League, with the Australia international pulling the strings in midfield for them.

He is quite clearly the club’s best player and it would be interesting to see how he handles playing on a bigger stage, and the pressure of playing for West Ham.

He would certainly offer them something extra in midfield, with the 27-year-old possessing a passing ability not seen in the current Hammers ranks.

Forever West Ham rating: 8/10

Likely to happen?

This will boil down to the player and his aspirations.

Mooy may feel as though he still has unfinished business at Huddersfield, and wish to stay in Yorkshire for another season or so.

Or, he may feel his job there is done, having helped them stay in the Premier League, and wish for a move away to a bigger club.

West Ham will have to hope it is the latter, and if so, would seemingly be in a good position to sign the midfielder.
