West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini is in the hunt to make Reims goalkeeper Edouard Mendy his first signing at the London Stadium, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper report that the highly-rated 26-year-old would cost around £2million this summer following a massively impressive season which saw Reims promoted to Ligue 1.

The Mirror claim that the 6ft 5in giant [Transfermarkt] is widely seen as one of the most underrated goalkeepers in France, with Mendy conceding just 19 goals in 31 matches including 17 clean sheets in 2017/18.

Good move for West Ham?

100%.

Mendy has had an outstanding season for Reims and looks destined for a big move this summer, with the Guinea-Bissau international being eyed up by several English clubs.

Goalkeeper has been a massive problem position for the Hammers this season with Joe Hart and Adrian flitting in and out of the side, so bringing in one or two stoppers is a priority for Pellegrini.

Signing Mendy for just £2million would be a solid way to kick off the summer, with the 26-year-old instantly improving the squad.

Likely to happen?

It is not clear how far along the Hammers’ interest in Mendy is, but they do look to be putting themselves in a good position to win this race.

Mendy would obviously jump at the chance to join a Premier League side, so as long as the Irons convert their interest into a concrete bid soon, then this one could be a formality.
