West Ham are interested in signing Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton in the summer, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claims that the Hammers are lining up the 32-year-old to be their number one next season and replace Joe Barton, who is returning to Manchester City following his loan.

It is understood that the Londoners are targeting Burnley’s £10million-rated shot-stopper and feel he can solve their problem area.

Heaton is the club captain at Turf Moor and has three international caps for England, but has found himself on the bench at club level since the breakthrough of teammate Nick Pope.

Good move for West Ham?

Current West Ham goalkeeper Adrian is good enough to stick around at the London Stadium next season, but preferably they need a new number one option in-between the sticks.

Heaton has proven himself to be a top performer in the Premier League and is a safe pair of hands that would be a great fit for the Hammers.

He is in his peak years for a goalkeeper and is an excellent shot-stopper, while it would also do his England prospects no harm if he became the number one at West Ham.

Likely to happen?

Heaton’s future is up in the air as the summer window approaches and the belief is that Burnley don’t want to lose their senior man.

However, he is too good to be a back-up option next summer and West Ham should be confident of prizing him away with the offer of regular action.
