Jamie Redknapp has urged West Ham to try sign Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere in the summer and feels that he would be a great fit at the London Stadium.

The 26-year-old is out of contract with the Gunners at the end of the season, but he has reportedly been offered a new deal.

The Daily Mirror claims that the Gunners have offered the playmaker a three-year deal to stay at the Emirates and are confident he will extend his stay.

It is understood the England international is currently on a £110,000-a-week deal and Arsenal are close to agreeing new terms with him.

The report details that Everton, Wolves, Juventus and AC Milan have all been alerted to the central midfielder’s situation, as he has been worried about taking a pay cut.

Redknapp believes that “maverick” Wilshere could be a great addition for West Ham and believes they should swoop for him.

“Jack Wilshere has proved he is still a fine player but a new challenge would do him the world of good,” Redknapp wrote in the Daily Mail.

“West Ham could be a good move. Their fans love a maverick who will conjure moments of magic. Jack could help West Ham light up the London Stadium.”

OPINION

Wilshere has proven his fitness this season for Arsenal with 38 senior appearances, scoring two goals and supplying six assists in return. He is deep-lying playmaker that is regarded as one of the most technically gifted English players in recent years and has had his fair share of injury problems in the past. On his day he can take the Premier League by storm and he would definitely be the sort of high-profile arrival that would excite West Ham fans, especially if they nab him off their London rivals Arsenal. The Hammers have ended the Premier League season 13th in the league table and need some serious additions to the squad if they are to compete for European spots next season. They should look to fork out for Wilshere’s hefty wages and hijack the new Arsenal deal for him. Wilshere’s career appears to be at a crossroads and a fresh challenge elsewhere could be the making of him.
