West Ham manager David Moyes has waxed lyrical about the trio of Marko Arnautovic, Joao Mario and Manuel Lanzini after the club’s win over Everton.

The Hammers ended the Premier League season with a 3-1 home victory at the London Stadium and end up 13th in the table.

Attacker Lanzini scored twice for the hosts, while centre-forward Arnautovic was also on target.

Attacking midfielder Mario played the last game of his loan spell before he returns to Inter Milan and has been a mainstay in the starting XI since he arrived in January.

Moyes highlighted the key trio after the Everton win and feels they were the stand out players.

“Marko’s been brilliant, today, because I know the quality of the centre halves they’ve got, Phil Jagielka and Michael Keane, he’s up against really good players, and at the moment he’s looking a real handful,” Moyes said, as quoted by Football London.

“I thought Joao Mario and Lanzini were a threat all day, I thought their were really, really good and with Marko, I thought it was a good game to watch.”

OPINION

West Ham have at least ended a disappointing season on a positive and it’s clear there is plenty of work to be done in the next few months before the 2018/19 campaign begins. Both Arnautovic and Lanzini have to be at the core of the side next season, while turning Mario’s loan spell into a permanent one would also be a positive piece of business. West Ham’s major problem this season has been in defence and they can’t hope to compete for European spots without a fairly resilient backline. They need to bring in a new goalkeeper to the London Stadium, while also adding some extra defenders to the squad would massively help. The club’s supporters will desperate to find out as soon as possible who will be managing next season and if it is to be Moyes, the club have to financially back him in the summer. He has divided opinion during his short-term spell at the London Stadium, but some feel he deserves a chance at the manager’s role next season.
