While the focus at West Ham in recent days has obviously been upon the identity of the club’s next manager, Irons bosses are also reportedly targeting another, lower-profile appointment.

As reported by the Daily Mail, the Hammers are eyeing up a deal to bring in Malaga sporting director Mario Husillos alongside Pellegrini, with the two having worked together at the La Liga club.

The newspaper claim that Husillos is facing an uncertain future after Malaga’s relegation, and the Irons are now looking at a possible reunion at the London Stadium.

While the 59-year-old transfer mastermind is not exactly a household name in England after a modest playing career and spending most of his time since on the continent, appointing Husillos is a seriously exciting prospect for Hammers fans.

You only need to look at the signings that Malaga made during Pellegrini’s reign to know that these are two men that know their football inside out, and would bring in some brilliant players to the London Stadium.

Pellegrini’s first transfer window as manager at Malaga was the winter of 2010/11, when the club signed Martin Demichelis, Julio Baptista and Willy Caballero, all of whom went on to become brilliant servants of the club in their time in Andalucia.

His next window was in the summer of 2011, and this was by far their most impressive as a duo. Malaga signed Santi Cazorla, Jeremy Toulalan, Isco, and Nacho Monreal in that summer, with several other good signings arriving on top of that.

Signings of this quality for a club like Malaga show that Husillos and Pellegrini have a brilliant eye for talent, and that is a seriously good sign for the Hammers if they pull these two deals off.

Husillos may not be a well-known figure, but bringing him in would be a shrewd move from the Hammers board, and one that should have fans jumping for joy ahead of the summer transfer window.
