Burnley head of recruitment Martin Hodge is on West Ham’s radar for a role at the club this summer, according to Claret and Hugh.

The Hammers news website report that Hodge’s impressive work at Turf Moor this season has put him on a shortlist to work alongside David Moyes, or whoever replaces him, next season.

Claret and Hugh claim that no decision about Hodge will be made until the club come to a decision on their manager, but he is very much in the frame for an important role.

It is said that the former Everton goalkeeper has a large catalogue of experience as a scout before taking up the head of recruitment role.

Hodge’s recruitment has helped Burnley achieve an incredible season which has seen them qualify for the Europa League by finishing in seventh place.

OPINION

While many will be unfamiliar with Hodge, his brilliant work at Burnley has been clear to see with the Claret’s qualification for the Europa League this season. Sean Dyche’s side have defied all expectations to finish seventh in the Premier League, with their Europa League place coming by virtue of the two FA Cup finalists finishing above them. With the former Hammers head of recruitment Tony Henry sacked several months ago following a racism storm, that position is now very much open, and Hodge looks like a prime candidate. First however, the small issue of a manager must be sorted, with Moyes expressing uncertainty about his future at the club in recent days. Talks are said to be scheduled for next week following the end of the season, and we will find out more then. If Moyes does leave, then a scramble will be on to secure a new boss as soon as possible and get cracking on summer business.
