West Ham are reportedly set to finalise the appointment of Manuel Pellegrini as their next manager on Monday and former player Danny Gabbidon has raised doubts over the potential decision.

Twitter account ExWHUemployee, who are a reliable source for Hammers news, have claimed that Pellegrini will meet with co-owner David Sullivan in the next 24 hours.

It is understood that the 64-year-old has left Chinese Super League club Hebei China Fortune this week and is jetting in for talks to takeover at the London Stadium.

The report details that the ex-Manchester City boss is “expected” to take the role left vacant by David Moyes, as he nears a return to English football.

Pundit Gabbidon has simply responded to the speculation by stating he is “not convinced”, as cited by his personal Twitter account.

OPINION

Moyes’ exit hardly came as a huge surprise at the end of the season, but overall he did a decent job at the London Stadium and should be able to pick up a job elsewhere. The Scotsman just didn’t quite fit the club unfortunately and appointing his successor is an absolute vital decision for the board to make. They need to start making serious improvements on the pitch and start delivering on regular European football at their impressive London Stadium. Pellegrini appears to be in pole position to be the next man under scrutiny and he should be able to deal with the pressure, as he arrives with an extremely impressive CV. The Chilean won the Premier League title in the 2013/14 with Man City and will surely have ambition to take the Hammers up the league standings with an attacking style of football. West Ham must hope they can wrap up his move with positive talks on Monday and then allow him to get straight to work, with it absolutely vital that the club sign a few high-profile players this summer to improve.
