West Ham boss David Moyes made no secret of his desire to improve his side’s ranks during the January transfer window, eyeing a number of established Premier League players but failing to land moves.

One of those widely linked with a switch to the London Stadium was England international Jonjo Shelvey, who had struggled to earn regular opportunities at Newcastle United during the first-half of the Magpies’ return to the top-flight.

However, Shelvey has excelled since the turn of the year and has established himself as a core part of Rafael Benitez’s side in their push to avoid relegation and he’s now revealed a January transfer was never on his mind.

Speaking to The Daily Mirrorhe said:

“It was more of a case of wanting to stay here and get this club back to the Premier League, because they paid a lot of money for me; of returning the favour to this club — and hopefully I can stay here for many years now,”

Shelvey scored his first league goal of the season in this weekend’s victory over Leicester City and his comments suggest he won’t be seeking a move if West Ham revive their interest at the end of the campaign.
